Depression

Depression in Southern California

Alarm clock on night table

Everybody feels sad every now and then. However, depression is something more serious than normal sadness. Depression (also known as clinical depression) is a serious mental illness that is characterized by a persistent feeling of worthlessness and sadness. It can last for months and years without proper treatment, and it can negatively impact an individual’s daily life.

At our Teen Treatment Center in Los Angeles, we offer different treatment and program options for teenagers between the ages of 12-17 years old who suffer from depression. We understand how serious this disorder is, and we understand how significantly it can impact a teen’s life. Worst case scenario, depression can lead a teen to attempt or commit suicide.

What are the symptoms of depression?

Some teens who suffer from depression can hide their symptoms fairly well. However, here are some common symptoms that you should watch out for:

  • Irritability and anger
  • Lethargy (loss of energy)
  • Loss of interest in hobbies or activities that they once enjoyed
  • Significant weight gain or loss
  • Difficulties concentrating
  • Hypersomnia (excessive sleeping) or Insomnia (inability to sleep)
  • Restlessness
  • Feelings of helplessness
  • Recurring thoughts of suicide or death

At Teen Anxiety, we urge you to seek professional help through Teen Anxiety Treatment in Los Angeles, California. We want to remind you that you are not alone, and if you feel like no one will understand or listen to you, you can always turn to us for help. We are here to listen. Contact us at 888-248-1278 or Set an Appointment to meet with one of our representatives.

NOTE: If you suspect that a teenager is suicidal, immediately call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at +1-800-273-8255 for 24/7 suicide support and prevention. You may also dial 911. If you are outside the U.S., you may visit Suicide.org for more resources on suicide awareness and support.
